Miss. Sarisb. Dom. proxima ante Adventurn, fol. cxiiii. Gregorii Sacr. Menard. p. 195. MS. Leofr. 149. The rubric of Sarum, like ours, always appointed this collect, epistle, and gospel for the last Sunday before the season of Advent began. See Miss. Sar. fol. cxiiii.

Miss. Sar. in die Sancti AndreÊ Sanctorale, fol. i. MS. Leofr. fol. 202. Comes Pamel. tom. ii. p. 56. The collect for this day does not occur in the old English formularies. In the liturgy of the ancient Gallican church, a passage in the Contestatio for St. Andrew’s day somewhat resembles our collect. "Almighty God, who didst give such grace unto thy holy apostle St. Andrew, that he readily obeyed the calling of thy Son Jesus Christ, and followed him without delay." "Per Christum Dominum nostrum qui beato AndreÊ in prima vocatione dedit fidem, et in passione dedit victoriam." Miss. Gothicum, Mabillon de Lit. Gal. p. 221.

Miss. Sar. Sanctor. fol. 2. MS. Leofr.202. Comes Pamel. p. 56.

This epistle, according to the Sarum rubric, was taken from the "commune unius Apostoli;" and the rule was adopted by the revisers and translators of our liturgy. Miss. Sar. in die Sancti Thomae Apostoli Sanctorale, fol. iii. and Commune, fol. i.

See a very ancient collect in the Alexandrian liturgy, entitled, "Oratio post Apostoli seu PaulinÊ EpistolÊ lectionem;" which recognises several of the same circumstances as our collect does.
