PREFACE.

Those who have enabled this short memoir to be written have perhaps rescued almost from oblivion (at least so far as the young generation is concerned) a remarkable personality. Moreover Charles Corfe inaugurated efforts which have now become known to Churchmen everywhere. It is sufficient to say here that he created what is now known throughout the Anglican world as the "Quarterly Intercession Paper," and he was also the founder of what is now the Society of the Sacred Mission at Kelham. In addition he was a naval chaplain than whom there can never have been anyone more beloved and more respected. The following pages are an attempt to set forth a life with such achievements, combined all through with a beautiful and winning nature.
